Bolstering the main body of the team are two more familiar
faces to the Wessex Stadium. Matt Bates, also eighteen comes
in as number 8 and local lad Alex McLeod who hails from
Poole is a squad member.
Matt started the 2005 season riding for Weymouth in the Conference League, before the change of race night saw him switch to Mildenhall. Unfortunately, on his debut outing for the Fen Tigers Matt suffered a broken back. He returned to speedway riding in second halves and had several outings for Plymouth in 2006. A squad member for the Oxford Lions in 2007, Matt averaged 6.67 in his three meetings for the ill-fated club. Seventeen year old Alex McLeod has been a regular during Weymouth’s second halves and has also competed in the Academy League for Poole and Somerset. The improving youngster will be eager to make his mark in the Conference League this year and has been working hard over the winter months in preparation for the rapidly approaching speedway season. by Julie Martin Weymouth Wildcats Press Officer |
Quotes in The Speedway Star and Dorset Evening Echo
"Bartlett has strengthened his squad further by adding Matt Bates and Alex Mcleod to his back up pool"
"Bartlett hopes Bates will kick start his career with the Wildcats this term and he is confident Mcleod will also show no shortage of promise"
"We've also got Alex Mcleod and he has been flying this year and it will be nice to have a selection of talented young riders at reserve"
All this is great news for Alex, his family and helpers and is a reward for the efforts he put in training over the Winter months.
Its the first step in his racing career and he wishes to thank Phil Bartlett and all at Weymouth Wildcats for giving him the opportunity and promises this will push him to better things, as he showed at Poole P&P by impressing with his improvement in pace and racing.
